A while back I suggested that, contrary to received opinion, a surprising number of professionals do in fact own and use Leicas. It's just that they use them for their personal work rather than to earn money. At this year's Arles photography festival in France I met Dr Kaufmann, the owner of Leica, and talked for some time with Stefan Daniel, the brand manager for the M-series. As a result, I now have another theory about why professionals may prefer to keep quiet about their use of non-SLR cameras, not just Leicas.

Recently, I was to be photographed for a newspaper article about some of my work. This is one thing that is really good for my ego, which needs to be constantly fed like an avaricious giant in some medieval fairytale.
This also made me really look forward to seeing how my photographer friend Anita was going to manage the photo session – in other words, how good she was going to make me look. You know, professional and serious, in a laid-back and charming kind of way. Isn't this the reason why one should let a professional photographer take portrait photographs?
